Glass In Flight is a collection of two traveling outdoor exhibitions of monumental steel and dalle de verre glass sculptures inspired by pollinators, insects, birds, and the natural world.

At its heart, Glass In Flight invites guests to look closer at the remarkable creatures around them and discover their importance with a renewed sense of wonder.

Created for botanical gardens, zoos, arboretums, and public spaces, each exhibition is designed for long-term outdoor display and flexible integration into the landscape.

About the Exhibits

Built to Travel

Each Glass In Flight exhibition travels on two standard flatbed semitrailers, with sculptures protected in custom-built wooden crates designed specifically for their transport.

From packing and shipping to installation and deinstallation, the Glass In Flight team oversees the movement of the collection from one host venue to the next.

Two Distinct Exhibitions

Each Glass In Flight exhibition has its own collection of sculptures and signature pieces, offering two unique options for host venues.

Glass In Flight 1

A vibrant collection that brings pollinators and insects to monumental scale, with butterflies, dragonflies, hummingbirds, beetles, moths, mantises, and more appearing throughout the landscape.

Signature pieces invite guests to walk beneath, around, and among the artwork, including the Beehive Archway, Butterfly Tree, and Hummingbird Archway.

A Platform for Programming

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Glass In Flight is designed for outdoor display at botanical gardens, arboretums, zoos, public gardens, and other outdoor venues. Sunlight brings the color and faceted texture of the glass to life, so the sculptures are not intended for indoor display.

    Because many sculptures are too large and heavy to move by hand, exhibition areas must also be accessible by a telehandler or similar equipment during installation and deinstallation.

  • Most exhibitions are on display for three to six months. We are also happy to discuss longer exhibition periods or custom opportunities with venues looking for something different.

  • There is no prescribed layout. Each exhibition includes more than 30 large-scale sculptures that can be arranged to complement your landscape, pathways, gardens, and gathering spaces.

    Many sculptures also work beautifully in groups, allowing for a wide variety of configurations to suit different landscapes and environments.

  • Alex Heveri and the experienced Glass In Flight team are onsite to lead installation and deinstallation, including the placement and handling of each sculpture.

    Host venues provide a telehandler and operator along with two to three team members to assist with the process.

  • Absolutely. Venues have used Glass In Flight to support pollinator education, conservation programming, member events, community partnerships, and other special programming.

    How much you build around the exhibition is up to you. Some hosts have created extensive programming, while others have allowed the sculptures and landscape to stand on their own. Both approaches have been successful.

  • Yes. The sculptures can be illuminated after dark, and previous hosts have successfully extended exhibition hours with evening displays and events.

    Lighting is optional and is planned and provided by the host venue.

  • Venues can build sponsorship opportunities around the full exhibition, individual sculptures, educational programming, special events, and other guest experiences.

    Glass In Flight can provide exhibition imagery, sculpture details, artist information, and other materials for sponsor outreach. We can also work with your team to develop a one-page sponsorship prospectus for your organization.

    Glass In Flight may also provide a small butterfly sculpture that can be used as a special sponsor or donor gift, raffle or auction item, or as part of another fundraising initiative.
